Reverse Hair Washing

Reverse Hair Washing Disclosure: The article contains affiliate links, which means that I may get a commission (Through no extra costs to you) if you decide to purchase anything through links. I only recommend products & systems that I use and love myself, so I know you’ll be in good hands. Thank you for supporting my website!

Reverse Hair Washing, granted this trend isn’t that new, but it certainly is to me! But let’s backtrack and see how I came to finding out about this new way of washing your hair.

My current state of hair is a frizzy, brittle, dry, hot mess. After a year of over-processing it with hot styling tools, bleach and any and all colors of the rainbow, I am now paying the price.

The first step I took to getting my hair back to health was chopping it off. And I mean, I went as short as I dared. I also swore off the flat-iron and decided to embrace my natural curls.

Well, my curls (that used to be beautiful and bouncy) are now more of a limp wave that will instantly frizz up if I even think the word humidity.

The rat’s nest on top of my head prompted me to consult my buddy Google on some tips and tricks for damaged hair! And that is how I came across the reverse hair washing trend.

What is Reverse Hair Washing?

As the name implies, you are going to wash your hair reversed. So we start with conditioner first and wash with shampoo last!

The steps

  1. Apply conditioner to wet hair (but not directly on scalp) and brush through with a wide tooth comb
  2. Leave it on for a couple of minutes (do your usual “waiting on conditioner” routine)
  3. Apply shampoo – WHILE CONDITIONER IS STILL IN HAIR – to scalp and massage everything in
  4. Rinse very well

What is the benefit of Reverse Hair Washing

Conditioner can cause buildup on your hair that in turn will weigh your hair down. Using shampoo after, clarifies some of this buildup. So in theory you are reaping the benefits of a conditioner without a waxy build up.

My experience with Reverse Hair Washing

I noticed right away that my hair is more manageable. Yes, it did not have the silky smooth feel it normally has (with using conditioner last) but I was able to comb through it with no tangles and my hair felt like it had more body and substance.

I simply air-dry my hair and use a leave-in balm on my ends, a small amount of hair mousse to define my curls and an anti-frizz product. All three a must for naturally curly hair IMO no matter what way you wash your hair. {links are Amazon affiliated and the products I use}

With the Reverse Hair Washing method, I found my curls were more defined and held up longer. And my second-day hair never looked better.

By the way, I also feel like I am getting away with longer breaks between hair washing.

Is Reverse Hair Washing for you?

It depends on your hair type and a little bit of what you want from your conditioner. You could have the same hair than me, and end up hating the reverse hair washing. All you can do is give it a try for the next 3-4 times you wash your hair, and see for yourself. You have nothing to lose!

Personally I think it does work, and I would recommend everyone to at least try it for themselves.

On the other hand, if you use a good quality conditioner that is right for your hair and rinse it off very well, you should not have to worry about build up on your hair.

5 Mascara hacks

Who doesn’t want bold, dramatic lashes every single time? There are hundreds of mascaras out there that promise just that. But your real life experience differs quite a bit from the promised results.

Here are five mascara hacks that will help you make the most out of your mascara and assist you to archive stunningly thick lashes!5 Mascara hacks

Mascara Hacks #1: Make it last

If you use your favorite mascara every day, chances are it will dry out way before you can scrape every last drop out of the tube!

If you find that you mascara is dry and clumpy, just add a few drops of saline solution (for contact lenses) to the tube. Move the wand around a bit to make sure everything mixes well.

Another tip is never to use a pumping up and down motion with your wand, to prevent too much air getting inside. Rather, just like above, move the wand around in the tube, to coat the brush with mascara.

Mascara Hacks #2: Best way to apply5 Mascara hacks

First you want to get rid of the excess on the wand. You don’t need that much product, and this will only result in a clumpy spider leg mess! Just scrape the excess of on the edge of the tube, or give the wand a wipe with a Kleenex.

Don’t just comb your mascara in a straight motion through your lashes! Start at the base, and with a seesaw motion work your way slowly to the tip of the lashes.

To get the most of your mascara brush, try also to rotate the brush at the same time. This might take a bit of practice. But when you have the rotating seesaw motion down, you will be amazed at the results.

And of course, always do a second coat! But do the second coat right away, if the first coat is dry, you run into the danger of clumping!

Mascara Hacks #3: How to clean up smudges5 Mascara hacks

It happens to the best of us (and almost daily to me). You blinked too fast or too hard, or you slipped while applying the mascara!

The best trick I learned is not to clean it up right away! Give the mascara time to dry on your skin. It will harden, and that way you pick off the mess quite easy, without causing more smudges!

If the smudges are on your eyelid, go over it with concealer or eyeshadow to hide any mascara residue that does not want to budge (source: www.imalmostreadyblog.com)

Mascara Hacks #4: Use two different types of Mascara

5 Mascara hacks

Remember earlier I mentioned always to apply a second coat of Mascara? Now we are taking it a step further by using another kind for the second layer.

It doesn’t have to be the same brand or anything like this! Mix and match to your heart’s content until you find the perfect pair of your lashes.

A rule of thumb is to use a lengthening/curling mascara for the first coat, and for the second a highly pigmented (the blackest black you have) volumizing mascara. Extra points if you use a lash primer first!

My combos vary, but at the moment my favorite is first Benefit Roller Lash, followed by Urban Decay Perversion mascara.

Ever since I started using this Mascara hack, people always comment on how great my lashes look. Sometimes they even think that they are fake lashes.

Mascara Hacks #5: Air it out

Not liking your brand new mascara? If the reason is that the mascara seems to “wet”, just open it every day and wiggle the brush around in the tube. The air will make the mascara more manageable after you do this for a few days.

I use this trick a lot with my brand new Maybelline Mascaras, and it works like a charm!

Hack number four is my favorite. And it changed my lash game! Which mascara hack is new to you? Do you have one that I did not mention?

Right Order of Applying Skincare

There is a right way and order of applying skin care products! And who know, honestly I did not! And apparently have been doing it wrong for years! When I came across an infographic about the order of applying skin care products, I changed my routine to match it up.

And because the results blew my mind, I’m going to share this pure gold nugget of information with you!

Why the right order of applying skin care products is essential

If you are using multiple skin care products, making sure that you use them in the correct order is important so that each product can penetrate through the layers of your skin.

So if the order is scrambled, chances are, you are not reaping the full benefits of the products you are useing!

The right order of applying skin care products is:

In short you want the lightest product to go on first and work your way up to the heaviest that will be able to penetrate through the products.

Every morning and evening skin care order

  1. Oil-free makeup remover
  2. Cleanser
  3. Facial Scrub (twice a week)
  4. Facial Mask (twice a week)
  5. Toner
  6. Serum
  7. Eye Cream
  8. Moisturizer
  9. Facial Oil
  10. Sunscreen (in the a.m.)
  11. Retinol (in the p.m.)

[infobox style=”alert-info”] Follow the links for great DIY and natural versions of the product! [/infobox]

If you have the time and you can wait between each step (after the toner) for a few minutes even better! That way you are giving each product time to do its thing before you layering on the next.

If you are using any special skin care (e.g. for acne), apply this before you use the serum, as you want it to be in direct contact with the affected area.

My Results

Honestly for years I did the wrong order. Example, I used to scrub before using a cleanser, and my facial oil came on right after the serum.

I have been sticking to the above order for a few months now. And the difference is huge! No breakouts and my skin looks and feels good all day long.

The biggest revelation was for the Retinol. Every time I used it I ended up with dry, flaky skin. Now that I layer it over the facial oil, I have no problems, and my skin is less (to almost none) irritated.

I promise you if you stick to the right order of applying skin care products, you will reap the benefits of your products fast.

new skincare product

New Skincare Product: We all get excited when we get to try a new skincare product, and hoping that this is the one that will get rid of all our skincare worries! But there are a few things to keep in mind, before using your new treasure to get the most out of it for the best possible resultsnew skincare product

1. Ask for samples, before buying a new Beauty Product

We all know that skin care products can be quite expensive. This is especially true when we are entering the realm of anti-aging or anti-acne skincare

But they might be their money worth, so before splurging on a product you have never used before or know very little about, ask for a sample.

Of course, the sample won’t be big enough to show results, but you will be able to get a feel for it. And you also can test your skin’s reaction to the product.

2. Use one new Beauty Product at a time

You should only use one new product at a time, so your skin can get slowly used to it. That way you can also pin point if that particular product is working for you, or if you have a reaction to it. Wait for about a week before introducing the next new product.

3. Give your new Beauty Product six weeks

Your skin needs around six weeks for a complete cell turnover. This is especially important to know if you are trying out a new anti-acne product. It can take up to six weeks for a visible result, and a lot of times, your breakout will get worse before it gets better.

All this is normal, and as long as your reaction is not severe, try sticking to the product for the time being and give it time to work its magic.

4. Consistency

Consistency goes hand in hand with the six weeks role and using only one new product at the time. Make sure that your skincare routine is consistent! Don’t jump from one thing to the other. Use the same products in the same order all the time. That is the only way you will see best possible results

5. Right order

The correct order of applying your skincare products also plays a big role when using a new product! In short the order should be

  • Cleanser
  • Scrub/mask (twice a week)
  • Toner
  • Serum
  • Moisturizer (day, night, eye)
  • Facial oil

New skincare productKeeping this five tips in mind, will help you to get the most of your new beauty product with the best possible results. Now off you go and enjoy your new treasure!
