I was on the mission to find out what these Italian Beauty secrets are! Why? Because my Italian peers look like they jumped out of a fashion magazine when they drop off their kids at school in the morning!
And they don’t even appear to be wearing any makeup besides mascara and some gloss! So I did some research to get to the bottom of this!
One thing stands out. The ladies know how to dress and do it excellently every day! Plus they have great hairstyles. So number one rule is. Dress to impress and style your hair! Everything else will fall into place.
But there are secrets to their hair and skin care that gives them some slight advantage; unfortunately it is not wine and pizza!
Italian Beauty Secrets for Skin Care
For pesky pimples, cut a garlic clove in half, and rub onto the pimple (after cleansing and toner). Let it dry and proceed with your regular skin care.
For soft glowing skin, just use plain yoghurt (mix with other beneficial ingredients or use alone). Apply all over face, let it sit for 15 minutes, and rinse off with lukewarm water
I don’t need to tell you that there is a lot of sunshine her in Bella Italia! So there are tons of opportunities to catch your daily dose of Vitamin D! And the Vitamin D promotes the cell turnover process within your skin. Of course, too much sun and you will have the opposite effect. It depends on where you live, but here in Italy, 20 minutes in the sun is all we need for our daily dose! Can’t get Vitamin D the sunny way? Make sure you take a supplement!!!
Olive Oil is an excellent body moisturizer and has a lot of great skin beneficial properties. After you shower, rub small amounts of oil into the skin to lock in the moister! Can’t stand the smell of olive oil, use coconut oil instead. Just as good, and there are some that say it is even better!
Italian Beauty Secret for Hair Care
Number one things is, not to use shampoo too often. If you can get away with it, try to shampoo only once a week. Most of the oil and dirt in your hair will get rinsed out during your daily shower. If you are more on the heavy shampoo side (using it almost daily), your hair ends up with a lot of product build up and becomes dull. Look up the No Poop method and see what great success people are having with never washing their hair with shampoo at all.
Again with the olive oil. Massage a bit of olive oil into your scalp before you wash it. The oil promotes your scalp’s health, which in turn results in less dandruff, and soft and shiny hair
One of the most popular hair tricks in the summer is getting natural highlights. Before you go out into the sun, take some fresh squeezed lemon juice, and apply on the area where you want your highlights. Voila, the lemon in combination with the sun will lighten up you hair. And you are left with natural looking highlights!
Italian Beauty Secret for Makeup
This one is easy and simple: LESS IS MORE!!!
The secret lies in highlighting your facial assets, instead of covering up every single flaw!
I used to wear lots and lots of makeup. I would do a full coverage face with smokey eye every day. I changed my routine to the bare minimum and concentrating on bringing out my assets. And now get lots of compliments on how well rested I look and even younger.
So go easy on the makeup and embrace your face’s assets!
Besides these tips and tricks, I believe that the Italian Lifestyle in general also plays a big part.
When you stress over every little thing that goes on in your life, it will show on your skin. We all had these pesky stress breakouts around our chin area. Add to the stress, restless nights and eating junk, our skin is left looking tired and lackluster.
And this is something Italians just don’t do. They do not stress out over little things, especially if it is something they believe they can not change. The Italian laid back way of life and their outstanding cuisine, just shows on their faces. And in the end they simply do not have to work that hard to look good, it comes naturally to them!
Until next time
